History of the Development of Miyashita Park

Miyashita Park, located north of Shibuya Station, was opened in 1953 and named after the area, “Miyashita-cho”. Due to the booming development of Tokyo’s commercial activities, causing parking problems, Tokyo conducted a large-scale urban planning, and after the Tokyo Olympics in 1964, the park was reconstructed into a parking lot, and the top floor of the parking lot was Tokyo’s first aerial park, “Miyashita Park”, with skateboarding, entertainment facilities. For the older generation of Tokyo people, this is their childhood memory, and also the filming location of the early Japanese drama.

With the evolution of the times, in 2020, Tokyo welcomed the Olympic Games again, and decided to rebuild Miyashita Park as the first project of the “Three-dimensional Urban Park System” in Shibuya District. Nowadays, Miyashita Park has the “Shibuya District Miyashita Park” on the top floor, and the first to third floors have been transformed into the shopping mall “RAYARD MIYASHITA PARK” of Mitsui Group. Besides, there is also a hotel of the latest brand of Mitsui Group, “Sequence”, next to it.
