Hotel Des Alpes Lucerne

If you venture out to Lucerne for the first time, stick to the Old Town to immerse in the whimsical vibe with the cobble-stoned streets and proximity to most of the historic sights, best restaurants, and shopping streets.

Meanwhile, the Tribschen neighborhood is where budget-friendly hotels are concentrated. Those seeking the nightly vibrancy in Lucerne should look out for the New Town area (Neustadt) just across the river from the old town.

In this article, I’ll walk you through a brief review of my stay at Des Alpes Hotel, one of the most well-received hotels in the historic pedestrian downtown of Lucerne with a fascinating view of the Alps, Lake Lucerne, and Chapel Bridge.

The Bedroom

Hotel Des Alpes Lucerne

Des Alpes breaks its accommodations down into three collections centered around the view: city view, balcony view, and Chapel Bridge view.

Hotel Des Alpes Lucerne

I booked a stellar Double Bedroom facing Chapel Bridge and balcony. It boasts a classic design with a traditional feeling and a cozy ambiance, featuring a small window that looks out to the famous Chapel Bridge.

Barging out to the window and soaking up the morning view is one of my favorite things to do while rolling around in the bedroom. Meanwhile, the chilly breezy air after the sun beams down is another great time in the day to kick back by the window.

Speaking of the design, linen white, Swiss red, and dark beige make a statement as the primary tones of the interior. Wooden furnishings team up with royal red upholstery enhanced by the glimmering dimly-lit chandelier making the room a lot warmer to stay put.

The bedroom is not crazy big, ranging somewhere between 12 square meters to 14 square meters but the dreamy window view totally compensates for the small footprint.

As a 3-star hotel, the bathroom at Des Alpes is not much different from that in other accommodations of the same price range. Steeped in a classic 70s design, the small bathroom is sparkling clean with standard amenities. However, no toothpaste or toothbrush is stocked up so make sure you bring yours.

The Breakfast

Hotel Des Alpes Lucerne

Like many other hotels in the country, continental breakfast is served at Des Alpes as a buffet. You’re gonna have seasonal fruits, boiled eggs, milk, oatmeal, scrambled eggs, coffee and tea, jam, and toast.

As I came a bit too late that morning around 10 am, most of the good stuff was gone and had not been replenished yet. Sitting by the window to soak up the blissful morning view is part of the joy so make sure you pick the right seats for breakfast.

Conclusion: Is Des Alpes Hotel in Lucerne Worth Staying?

First, the not-so-good sides come from the less variety of breakfast options, the absence of air-con as well as a kettle in the room. Plus, the room itself is a bit small to suffice a hassle-free unpacking activity. However, the excellent window view and proximity to most of the main happenings in town totally compensate for the disadvantages.

Overall, you don’t want to stay within the room’s boundary for too long as most of the time you’ll be hitting the streets to explore. Therefore, I highly recommend Des Alpes Hotel in Lucerne for a short stay, especially for those visiting the city for the first time.
