Gyukatsu Motomura: Tokyo’s Best Japanese Beef Cutlets in Shibuya

One of the best foods in Tokyo is definitely "Moto Murasaki (Fried Beef Cutlet)". Their fried beef cutlet is incomparable to others, with a half-cooked crispy fried beef cutlet that you can grill on a hot plate. It's surprisingly amazing!

Speaking of Tokyo free travel, the most impressive must-eat food for me is definitely this ” Niukatsu Motomura” that is so delicious that it moves me to tears. Whenever I show my friends the photos, they always say, “What’s so special about fried pork cutlet?”

Wrong! Wrong! Wrong!

This is Fried Beef Steak!

The beef cutlet from Moto-Mura is so delicious that almost every store has a long queue.

There are already ten stores in Tokyo, and they have even opened in Osaka. However, on this day, I happened to be in Shibuya, where it all started, so I chose the seemingly less crowded “Miyagi Sakaguchi store” to eat.

However, the fact proved me wrong. I thought that heavy rain could reduce the crowds, but after a few times, I found that rain could not stop the enthusiasm of Tokyo people and tourists for eating delicious food. Even though the restaurant had just opened, I still had to wait for more than an hour in the rain before getting in!!!

▼ As it was raining heavily, I couldn’t take photos of the exterior. So, let’s have some fun with this map instead.

Finally, when you reach the staircase, the waiter will start greeting guests and handing out menus~

The menu includes English, Korean, and Japanese. There were actually Koreans, Japanese, and Caucasians dining on the day I visited, and it seemed like I was the only Chinese person there. I don’t know if there will be a Chinese menu in the future.

Niukatsu Motomura specializes in the dish “fried beef cutlet” and sells it in set meals that come with white rice, soup, shredded cabbage, and side dishes. The only difference between the various options is whether or not they include yam (tororo) and the size of the beef cutlet (130g, 260g). Below is the Japanese set meal menu and prices, translated for your convenience:

  1. Fried Beef Cutlet Rice Set (130g) 1,300 JPY
  2. Fried Beef Cutlet and Yam Rice Set (130g) 1,400 JPY
  3. Fried Beef Cutlet Rice Set (260g) 2,100 JPY
  4. Fried Beef Cutlet and Yam Rice Set (260g) 2,200 JPY
  5. Additional Fried Beef Cutlet, 130g for 800 JPY

Finally, I got to sit at the Piao’er table! As I was alone, I was seated at the bar with a Korean on my left and a foreigner on my right. In front of us were the delicious dishes waiting to be served!

Crazy Delicious Fried Beef Cutlet

After taking our seats, the delicious fried steak was served on the table!!!

The set includes “130g fried beef steak, one bowl of rice (free refill), miso soup, side dishes, cabbage and mashed potatoes”. The accompanying sauces are “soy sauce and garlic sauce”. The chef recommends starting with the original flavor, then trying the rose salt, and finally dipping in the mustard and soy sauce. However, I think everyone will end up dipping everything in soy sauce and mustard because it’s just so delicious!

This is the original form of the fried beef steak that makes people drool. Don’t be fooled by its harmless appearance, it’s actually quite powerful!

Cabbage is also juicy, sweet and delicious, but its shine is often stolen by fried beef steak.

Niukatsu Motomura uses fresh whole beef that is fried to perfection, resulting in a crispy outer layer and tender, juicy beef inside (it’s so good it’ll melt in your mouth ✿♥‿♥✿).

Whether you eat raw meat or not, you can dip the fried beef steak in sauce and grill it on the iron plate grill on the table. Even those who like raw meat will still grill it because grilling beef is so much fun!

The taste is absolutely fresh, tender, and crispy!

Miso soup is definitely a highlight before the end of the meal, and the miso soup at Gyukatsu Motomura is so delicious that you’ll want to keep refilling your bowl!

After eating, all I can say is that Niu Katsu Moto Mura has already been listed as one of the top ten must-eat foods in Tokyo by Piaoer. If you come to Shibuya to play, don’t miss this popular and delicious food that makes you want to fly back to Tokyo.

Niukatsu Motomura Branch Information

Niukatsu Motomura has many branches, with stores in Ueno, Shinjuku, and Ikebukuro. Below are the details of each branch. Currently, I still think the Shibuya store is the best, as I wasn’t as impressed with the Ueno and Osaka stores. However, there is now a branch in the Mitsui Outlet Park in Linkou, Taiwan, which seems to have rare high ratings among Japanese stores that have opened overseas. If you can’t queue up in Tokyo, you can also consider trying it out in Taiwan!
