One of the most popular restaurants for tourists in Shinjuku West Exit is "Rokkasen", which specializes in all-you-can-eat wagyu beef yakiniku. They use daily deliveries of Matsusaka beef and offer reasonable prices with guaranteed quality.

Rokkasen (六歌仙) is a renowned restaurant in Japan that offers exquisite and top-quality Wagyu beef, making it a must-visit destination for meat lovers. This establishment has gained popularity among both local diners and international visitors from around the world. In recognition of its exceptional culinary offerings, Rokkasen was honored with TripAdvisor’s prestigious “Certificate of Excellence Award” in 2015.

At Rokkasen, you can savor the tantalizing flavors of Japanese beef, including the renowned Matsuzaka beef and Black Hair Beef, known for their melt-in-your-mouth tenderness. This restaurant is truly a paradise for beef enthusiasts. Their menu showcases the high-quality beef prepared in three different styles: yakiniku (grilled meat), shabu-shabu (hot pot), and sukiyaki (sliced beef cooked in a soy-based broth). Additionally, Rokkasen offers an all-you-can-eat course, allowing you to indulge in unlimited beefy delights.

Conveniently located in the vibrant heart of Tokyo’s Shinjuku district, Rokkasen attracts a continuous stream of visitors seeking an unforgettable dining experience. In particular, Rokkasen Yakiniku has gained a stellar reputation as one of the hottest all-you-can-eat yakiniku restaurants in Tokyo. Their extensive menu boasts a wide selection of dishes, including beef tongue, diaphragm, crab, as well as luxurious options like Kobe beef and Matsusaka beef. Currently, there are only two Rokkasen restaurants in Japan. Our main store is located on the 6th and 7th floors of the Sun Flower Building, as shown in the picture above. It is only a 2-minute walk from JR Shinjuku Station West Exit, Seibu Shinjuku Line Shinjuku Station, and Marunouchi Line Shinjuku Station. Our branch store is located in the basement, which is about a 3-minute walk away.

Also, please be reminded that during meal times, there are a lot of people in the Sun Flower Building where our store is located, and you may have to wait a long time for the elevator to go up. Therefore, it is better to arrive early before the reservation time if possible.

The Champion of Shinjuku’s grilled meat restaurant!

Since 1986, Liu Ge Xian has been committed to the business philosophy of “presenting the most perfect cuisine to guests”. Our pride and joy is our signature dish, the Matsuzaka beef, which is sourced from Asahiya, a specialty store with over 60 years of history. We carefully select our soy sauce and salt, including top-grade soy sauce from Niigata Prefecture, which has been in business for 164 years, and natural and healthy flat salt made from seawater in Kaidan, to perfectly showcase the original flavor of the beef. Each serving of wagyu beef is carefully inspected by our master chefs to ensure impeccable quality.

Introduction to the Set Menu Selection of Rokkasen

The menu of Rokkasen is divided into “a la carte”, “all-you-can-eat set menu”, and “selected meat set menu (without all-you-can-eat)”. If you make a reservation in advance, you need to choose the “all-you-can-eat set menu” or “selected meat set menu (without all-you-can-eat)” and pay online. Therefore, everyone needs to do their homework before making a reservation to know what set menu they want to eat.

All-you-can-eat set meal menu introduction

There are three types of meals: grilled meat, hot pot, and sukiyaki. Here, I will only introduce the “Four All-You-Can-Eat Grilled Meat Sets” for those who are visiting Roku Gexian for the first time. The main difference is the grade of beef, and the dining time is 90 minutes. The contents are as follows:

  • Snow Banquet: Unlimited supply of all items on the barbecue buffet menu + one dessert
  • Moon Banquet: All items from the Snow Banquet + premium beef belly, premium sirloin, premium salted beef tongue
  • Matsusaka Banquet: All items from the Moon Banquet + Matsusaka beef sirloin, premium rib eye, top-grade fillet, selected tongue salt
  • Kobe Banquet: All items from the Moon Banquet + Kobe beef ribs, Matsusaka sirloin beef, top-grade fillet, Matsusaka premium pork belly

In Japanese all-you-can-eat restaurants, drinks are charged separately. However, the set meals at Rokkasen Yakiniku include all-you-can-drink options such as the Maple Banquet and the Bellflower Banquet. You can also choose according to your own needs when making a reservation.

Unlimited BBQ Menu

Here is also a menu of unlimited barbecue all-you-can-eat dishes for everyone:

All-you-can-eat menu: Salted beef tongue, pork tenderloin, pork belly, bone-in pork belly, filet mignon, diaphragm, premium beef stomach, tender chicken, pork loin, pork cheek meat, pork feet, grilled crab, grilled shrimp, grilled squid, grilled scallops, grilled vegetables, grilled mushrooms, salad, lettuce, Korean kimchi, Korean kimchi platter, stone pot bibimbap, bibimbap, pork belly soup rice, seaweed tea rice, crab soup rice, cold noodles, rice, soup, egg soup, kelp soup, vegetable soup, spicy pork belly soup

Reservation Method

You can choose to make a reservation at Rokkasen Yakiniku through the official website or KLOOK. Both require payment with a credit card in advance, and the prices are similar. If you have KLOOK points, using them to make a reservation on KLOOK will be more favorable.

Moon Banquet

The most recommended one online with the highest CP value is “Snow Feast”, but Piaor and Little V actually have quite high requirements for meat quality. However, because our appetite is not very large, we don’t really want to eat high-end meats like Kobe beef ribs or Matsusaka sirloin beef at all-you-can-eat restaurants. Therefore, we chose “Moon Feast”, which is one level higher than “Month Feast”.

After the on-site personnel are seated, they will be presented with a menu for pre-ordered meals, which can be in Chinese, English, or Japanese. At the very beginning, three types of meat dishes will be served, more than the Snow Banquet. Other dishes can be ordered directly through a tablet, but the Chinese menu on the tablet may differ slightly from the paper menu provided. If unsure about any items, feel free to ask the service staff.

Table Service

As soon as we sat down, the waiter kindly took a cloth to cover our bags and jackets to prevent them from getting stained with the smell of grilled meat and smoke. What’s even more amazing is that we bought two large pillows that day, and the waiter also covered both boxes with paper boxes for us. It can only be said that the service of the Japanese is really meticulous!

All dining areas are private rooms, so you won’t see other customers during your meal. The only difference is that some Japanese-style rooms require you to take off your shoes, while Western-style rooms have seats separated by curtains.

Salted Beef Tongue, Beef Short Ribs, Beef Sirloin

The first dish to be served is the three meat dishes that are exclusive to the Moon Banquet compared to the Snow Banquet: “premium beef belly, premium sirloin, and premium salted beef tongue.” These three are also the most delicious dishes on the entire menu, and I think the focus can be on these three meats, and there’s no need to order anything else.

The top right corner features tender and flavorful premium beef sirloin (made from top-grade beef belly). It is absolutely delicious. The top left corner showcases premium salted beef tongue with a chewy texture and excellent seasoning. The last dish, beef tenderloin (made from top-grade inner muscle), has an ordinary taste and lacks any major surprises.

The service attitude of the staff at Liu Ge Xian Barbecue is very good. They will take the initiative to help customers change the grilling plate.

Grilled Vegetable Platter

If you’re afraid of oily food, I highly recommend starting with grilled vegetables wrapped in meat and dipped in special barbecue sauce. It’s delicious and helps to relieve greasiness.

Grilled Crab

The all-you-can-eat seafood selection at Moon Feast is quite extensive, but their seafood is definitely not on the level of Kani Doraku. It’s frozen, so while it’s not fresh, it’s not bad either. The freshness and texture are decent, but I would recommend focusing on the meat instead.

Grilled Scallops, Grilled Prawns

Scallops and grilled shrimp are both seasoned.

European Lobster

The lobster is quite elastic when eaten.

European Lobster

After eating the top-grade beef belly, top-grade sirloin, and top-grade salted beef tongue, I roughly knew where the quality of Liuge Xian barbecue meat was, so I didn’t order too many other all-you-can-eat sets. I only ordered the diaphragm to try it out, but the meat was ordinary and didn’t have any outstanding features, so I still focused on the “top-grade beef belly and top-grade salted beef tongue” later on.

Beef Small Intestine

As Japanese people love to eat offal when having barbecue, we ordered a portion to try and it was super elastic.

Crab Meat Soup Rice

Most Japanese yakiniku restaurants are based on the Korean-style improvement system, so they will definitely have Korean-style dishes such as bibimbap. Since I have never seen crab rice soup at other all-you-can-eat yakiniku restaurants, I ordered the crab rice soup at Rokkasen Yakiniku to try it out. As I expected, it was refreshing and easy to eat. If you, like me, prefer light beef bone soup, this one is pretty good.

Spicy Beef Soup Rice Bowl

The taste of spicy beef soup rice is average, it tastes like minestrone soup.

Korean Cold Noodles

The Korean-style cold noodles from Six Songs Xian Barbecue are very chewy and have a ginger flavor, and the taste is very good.

Dessert for Guests

When it’s almost time for the meal, the waiter will come and ask if there are any last-minute additions. If everything has been eaten, they will serve a dessert and a hot cup of Japanese tea to help with digestion.

Is Shinjuku Rokkasen Delicious?

The meal I had at Moon Feast this time cost around 3,000 Taiwanese dollars. The dining environment was comfortable, the service was really good, and the staff were proactive in changing the grilling net. The three types of meat – premium marbled beef, premium sirloin, and premium salted beef tongue – were worth the all-you-can-eat price of 3,000 Taiwanese dollars. However, if you want to eat high-quality grilled meat (like the kind that costs 10,000 Taiwanese dollars in Taipei), Moon Feast is still far from it. You need to order the “Matsusaka Feast” for at least 7,000 Taiwanese dollars or the even more expensive “Kobe Feast” to taste high-end Kobe ribeye steak and Matsusaka sirloin steak.
